Steven Seagal Tickets

Für Steven Seagal hat sich der Kreis geschlossen. Er musste erst den größten Erfolg in zwei unterschiedlichen Karrieren einfahren (Schauspielerei und Kampfsport), bevor er seiner Leidenschaft aus Jugendtagen nachgehen konnte: ein professioneller Blueskünstler sein. Immer noch sehr erfolgreich als Filmproduzent, Schauspieler, und Kampfsportikone ist er nun wieder dort wo für ihn alles angefangen hat: auf den Bühnen der rauchgeschwängerten Nachtclubs und in allen anderen Läden, in denen man die Urform der amerikanischen Musik, den Blues, jeden Abend hören kann. Er sagt: "This is not something new for me. My first artistic endeavour was playing music, and that was blues. It is something that has always been natural to me”.

Mojo Priest hält auch eine Handvoll Blues Klassiker bereit, inklusive Little Red Rooster, Seagals Interpretation von The Elmore James Staple, Dust My Broom und Muddy Waters Hit Hoochie Coochie Man. “It was a dream come true to work with these blues legends, many of whom I had played with before the making of this record", sagt Seagal. “Ruth Brown knew about my love for the blues and Robert Lockwood Jr. knew of it, as well. They wanted to work with me on this project, because they were aware I was going to make an authentic blues album; not a rock album with a blues fee”.

Mojo Priest ist der Nachfolger zu seinem World Music Album Songs From The Crystal Clove, welches in Frankreich auf Platz 1 in den Charts stand und seine erste weltweite Veröffentlichung war. “This is really the album I wanted to record and release, initially”, sagt Seagal, “But everyone told me: Don´t make a blues album because it won´t sell. But, now, I made the record I wanted to make because blues is my real passion, and Ive always wanted to do a blues record. Thats what I did first, making this music is what I wanted to do with my life. So, here it is. It is what it is", erzählt Seagal von seinem Verlangen, seine Zeit lieber in die Entstehung von Blues Musik zu stecken, als im Celebrity-Spotlight sein Leben zu verbringen, „I love to be low key and stay out of the lime light“.

Geboren in Lansing, Michigan, nur unweit entfernt von Detroit, wuchs Seagal in einer zum Grossteil schwarzen Nachbarschaft auf und sog schon im frühen Alter eine Unmenge an Blues in sich auf. “I was playing drums and guitar as a young boy, which I picked up from friends. I finally got a guitar given to me at the age of 12”. Es dauerte jedoch eine Weile bis Seagal den Blues wirklich für sich entdeckte: “The blues was kind of dead in the south at that time", erinnert er sich. “But, in Detroit, the blues was very much alive. After world war II, many blues legends left coal mines an cotton fields in the south and came across Route 23 to work in the steel mills and in the auto factories. Across the street from where I grew up there lived this old blues player. He was not a famous guy, but he had hung around all those legendary players and he played as good as all of them. You know, BB King once said: many of the labels up north grabbed these poor black guys and victimized them. They didn´t care about getting rich and famous they just wanted to play the blues”.

Als Seagal dann ein Jugendlicher wurde, war er ein geübter Musiker und durch seine Freunde und Nachbarn konnte er solche Legenden wie Freddy King, Albert King und Albert Collins auftreten sehen. Als er später seine Filmkarriere vorantrieb, verbrachte er seine Freizeit mit vielen der Größten wie BB King und John Lee Hooker.

“I got to meet those guys and played with them. My strongest influence was Clarence “Gatemouth” Brown. He taught me a lot about the blues. I got to play with these legendary people that I know, I was lucky I got to play the juke joints and the bars”. Seagals Reise durch die Windungen des Blues, die ihn zu Mojo Priest führte, ist eine seltsame. Als Jugendlicher versuchte er so viel Blues in sich aufzusaugen, wie nur möglich. Durch das Leben in einer ethnisch gemischten Umgebung konnte er immer weiter in das musikalische Leben vordringen, das ihn heute ausmacht. “I was colour blind", sagt Seagal, “I always felt like I was part of that community and part of that family. But many of those people rally suffered. It was a rough life living on the blues circuit".

In den 60ern, als alle anderen Kinder sich der britischen Rock Musik zuwandten, blieb Seagal bei seinen Wurzeln. “I never liked rock", resümiert er heute, “I wanted to hear the real blues. I could appreciate what those acts like Cream were doing because it did bring the blues to a wider mainstream market, but I had always been more excited about the blues in its original state”.

Was Seagal in der Zwischenzeit erreichte, dürfte jedem ein Begriff sein. Ist er doch heute noch bekannt als Aushängeschild in diversen Actionfilmen. Seinem Erfolg in Hollywood verdankte er dann auch die finanzielle Möglichkeit, eine der größten Gitarrenkollektionen der Welt zusammen zu sammeln. “I think I have several hundred guitars now, including an incredible tobacco sunburst Gibson 345 from the late Freddy King. I have guitars that had belonged to Muddy Waters, Jimi Hendrix and BB King, among others".

Im Mai 2006 gingen Seagal & Thunderbox auf Tour, um Mojo Priest zu promoten. Er und die Band spielten 42 Konzerte und brachten das Haus jedes mal zum Kochen: “I plan to hit the road again as soon as I can. There is nothing like playing the blues live fro a willing audience". Heutzutage verbringt Seagal die eine Hälfte der Zeit damit Blues Songs zu schreiben und zu spielen, während er die andere Hälfte mit Filmen verbringt.

“The blues is a feeling that comes from deep inside a person, for many people, just listening to the blues can be an emotional release, if not a life changing spiritual experience. That is why I love it so much."
